    FLUTE CARE

Protect your flute from extreme heat and cold. Basically, if the environment is comfortable for a human, it is good for a flute.  The block (bird, totem, fetish) on a Native American flute should be removed after play so the slow air chamber, the flue, and the bottom of the block can dry. If there is significant moisture, it should be slung or blown out of the flute, then, any visible moisture should be removed with a soft dry cloth.

An occasional application of wax to the flue and the bottom of the block will help moisture to pass through the flute and may help protect that area. Do not allow wax to build up in the flue as this will affect playability.

The finish on my flutes is very durable and should require little care beyond wiping with a soft dry cloth. Do not oil your flute.

A padded hard case (or a padded soft case and an unpadded hard case) is recommended for travel. See the links page for a source for high quality hard cases.
